Metal roofing is continuing on an upwards trend for many of the reasons we discuss on our site and in our content. It’s also why we’re so passionate about what we do! Metal roofing is durable, energy-efficient and aesthetically pleasing across a wide variety of homes. With a variety of colors and styles to select from, however, simply choosing to invest in a metal roof is only the first step to making the final decision on a quality roof for your home.
With regards to styles, there are two different types of metal roofing – exposed fastened and standing seam. In this article, we will discuss the qualities of each of these styles to help you determine which one is the best for you.
Exposed Fastening
This type of roofing consists of panels that overlap each other and that are fastened to the roof frame directly. Exposed fastening roofs are named as such because once installed the fastener is visible. Metal roofing can come in lots of different colors to suit your taste and this gives you a bit of creative fun with it. Due to the size of each panel, these types of roofing require less panels to install as well as less labor. If you are in a hurry and need a roof installed as soon as you can, this is a good option for you. One notable type of panel here is Max-Rib. Max-Rib is suited to many applications and is the preferred panel for buildings that need longevity in their roof.
Concealed Fastener (Standing Seam)
Standing seam roofing is a type of roofing where you will not see any of the fastenings or screws of the roof once it has been installed. From an aesthetic point of view this is the favourable option as it leans into a sleeker design. These are a popular choice for roofing and many people are choosing this for their homes.. Panels snap next to each other seamlessly and this creates a smooth effect.
There are a few types of panel that are concealed. Meridian panels are clipless and they are installed by putting a screw through a phalange. Installation of this panel is quick and the look is clean. Instaloc panels are installed with clips and are installed in a similar way to Meridian panels. 138T and 238T panels are useful and they are often used to recover a roof instead of replacing it.
Which metal roof works for me?
The metal roof you decide to install in your home will depend on many factors and there is no wrong answer. If you are looking for a quick installation then exposed roofing might be easier for you, but if design is your biggest focus you may want to choose standing seams and this will look clean and sleek.
Metal roofing is ideal for both commercial and residential applications and this means you can enjoy a great roof whatever the purpose.
